How to add and verify a "From" address

To send campaigns from your own email address, add it as a “From” address and verify it. Verifying proves that you own the mailbox, and it takes one click in an email from Hugo.

Add a “From” address

  1. In the navigation, go to Campaign Management → Campaign settings.
  2. In the “From” addresses panel, click Create “From” address.
  3. Enter the Name your recipients will see and the Address. Tick I hereby accept that this email address belongs to me or my organization and click Create “From” address.

The address is now listed with the status Pending. Addresses on Hugo’s own domains are reserved for Hugo: if you enter one, you are asked to use an address on a domain of your own.

Verify the address

  1. Open the inbox of the address you added. You will receive an email from Hugo Events (info@hugo.events) with the subject Verify your sender address for Hugo. If it isn’t there after a few minutes, check the spam folder.
  2. Click the link in the email. The link works for 24 hours. A page opens saying the address is verified.
  3. Back in Campaign settings, the status of the address is now Verified.

Only a verified address can be selected and used to send.

If the link expires before you click it, the status becomes Failed. Delete the address (the bin icon under Actions), add it again, and use the link in the newest email.

If you are asked to confirm the address first

Sometimes an address can’t be verified with that email alone, for example when it is already used as a sender elsewhere. Then Hugo first asks the owner of the mailbox to confirm it, so nobody can send as an address that isn’t theirs.

  1. The address receives an email from Hugo with the subject Confirm the sender address you added in Hugo. It says which organization added the address.
  2. Click Confirm this address. On the page that opens, click Confirm this address again. Confirm only if you or your organization added the address.
  3. If the address still needs verifying after that, the verification email described above follows. Click its link too.

While Hugo waits for your confirmation, the status column says Awaiting your confirmation. No email? Click Send the confirmation email again (up to three times an hour). Once you have confirmed, it says Confirmed until the verification link is clicked.

For an address on your own domain, the Verification records column shows three CNAME records, each with a Name and a Value. Add them to the DNS of that domain, or ask whoever manages it to add them. They let receiving servers check (DKIM) that your campaigns really come from your domain, which helps them reach the inbox. You need them once per domain.

Use the address

Once the address is Verified, select it in the Selected column to make it the address your campaigns are sent from. You can then also choose it as the From email when you create a campaign.
